About

WX Live returns again welcoming Heaven 17 to the stage, bringing their iconic synth-pop sound and decades of influential music to Wakefield.

Formed in Sheffield in 1980 by Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh after their departure from The Human League, and fronted by vocalist Glenn Gregory, Heaven 17 became one of the defining electronic bands of the era. Their name famously originates from A Clockwork Orange, where “Heaven 17” appears as a fictional band in the novel and film.

Across their career, Heaven 17 have released eight studio albums, beginning with their politically charged debut Penthouse and Pavement (1981), which reached No.14 in the UK Albums Chart, followed by the critically acclaimed The Luxury Gap (1983), a Top 5 UK success featuring their huge hits “Temptation” and “Let Me Go.” Their work blends synth‑pop, soul, funk and sharp social commentary, and their influence on electronic music continues today. With a catalogue spanning chart‑topping singles, experimental albums, and celebrated live releases, the band remain a vibrant force on stage.

Heaven 17’s performance at WX Live promises an energising night packed with fan favourites, atmospheric electronic soundscapes and the unmistakable vocals that have defined their music for more than four decades.

Whether you’ve followed them since the early days or are discovering their sound for the first time, this special live show offers the chance to experience one of Britain’s most enduring and innovative synth‑pop groups up close.
