Could we really talk about food experiences in Wakefield without putting the pink vegetable front and centre? We think not. The Rhubarb Festival, running from 21-23 February, is the biggest event in the Wakefield district’s calendar, and as always, there is a whole shed load of gourmet goings-on for foodies to enjoy.
Of course, this includes the Food and Drink market which, for the first time ever, is spreading through the Cathedral Precinct and Union Street so there’s more traders than ever before to choose from!
There are also Chef Demos throughout the weekend, and the Food and Drink Trail returns so you can sample rhubarb-based delights across the city.
If you fancy a bit of art with your food (Wakefield is the capital of sculpture, after all), then you’re in luck, because our biggest arts venues are getting in on the action, too!
The Hepworth Wakefield is offering up a fine-dining Rhubarb Supper Club on Friday, and delectable Rhubarb Afternoon Tea on Saturday and Sunday.
The Art House invites you to step into the Rhubarb Lounge, an oasis of rhubarb-inspired drinks and treats where you can even create artworks using inks made from rhubarb root.
At Yorkshire Sculpture Park, from 17-23 February, the Park’s food and drink outlets are serving a selection of rhubarb-inspired homemade cakes, sweet treats and savoury specials. Visit The Weston for home-cured rhubarb and dill salmon or sit on the terrace and enjoy a rhubarb and apple gin fizz.
