Summer Fun In Wakefield
The beginning of the summer holidays might have you quaking in your boots, but you needn’t worry! This guide is packed with fantastic things to keep the whole family amused.
Pontefract is very proud of its history and heritage – and rightly so! At Pontefract Museum we celebrate all things Ponte throughout the ages. There’s something for everyone, and here’s some of our favourite ways you and your little explorers can get involved:
Explore local street artist Rachel List’s fantastically colourful feature exhibition and add your own message, memory or drawing to our Rainbow Wall. You can also learn some Makaton signs throughout the gallery and tick off #39 Talking Signs on your 50 Things To Do Before You’re 5 app!
Pontefract’s liquorice heritage takes a sweet and squishy form in our soft play area! Let your imagination run wild and come up with allsorts of creations – will you rule over a candy kingdom, or start your own factory inspired by the cases around you?
Make your own copy of a coin from the Ackworth Hoard – treasure potentially buried by Henrietta Maria in the 1640s! Can you find the original coin in the case next to the big replica? Which of the coins or jewellery is your favourite?
Get dressed up for the Pontefract Races and ride alongside historic paintings! What would your champion horse be called? Cheer on your friends and family! [Ages 3+]
Pontefract has been a busy market town since the Middle Ages, and we need you to run the Museum Market! What’s on special offer today?
We’ve also got a range of activities and trails to take you around the museum, and there’s free fun crafts every Saturday. What will it be this week?
