The Friends of Normanton Library were supported with a Culture Grant as part of Our Year – Wakefield District 2024 to partner with Edgelands Arts and deliver 4 x workshops with pupils from Newlands Primary School and St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School.
Artists Tony Wade and Helen Thomas of Edgelands Arts worked with the pupils to create 2D artworks with themed around the birds found in the Library Garden. They include a Robin, Goldfinch, Wren, Great Tit, Blackbird, Blue Tit, Starling, Chaffinch, Collared Dove, and Sparrow.
There are 10 circular dibond panels which are 700mm in diameter. They are installed around the Normanton Library Garden walls and fences to form a colourful mural.
A poster inside the Library identifies the birds depicted and encourages visitors to go outside and see the mural.
This mural is part of Our Year Crossings & Gateways.
