The Hatchling is a free outdoor theatrical performance taking place over the August bank holiday weekend as part of Our Year – Wakefield District 2024.

Friday 23 August – Wakefield City Centre

Saturday 24 August – Wakefield City Centre

Sunday 25 August – Pugneys Country Park (please note: there will be no parking onsite at Pugneys on Sunday. Please use the free shuttle bus from Wakefield, Hemsworth & Pontefract).

Travel Information

Train

There are two trains stations in Wakefield, both less than a 15-minute walk away from Wakefield Cathedral.

Wakefield Westgate Station

Wakefield Kirkgate Station  

This station is managed by Northern. You can find more information about station facilities here.

Bus

Wakefield Bus Station  

Wakefield Bus Station is located on Union Street (WF1 3AQ) and is a less than 10 minute walk to Wakefield Cathedral.

The bus station has three entrances:

  • Union Street entrance – pedestrians only
  • Marsh Way – pedestrians only
  • Providence Street – suitable for vehicle access with a drop off point and pay and display car parking close by.

The main operators are Arriva, Globe Travel, Stagecoach Yorkshire, Station Coaches, Team Pennine and National Express.

Pugneys Country Park

Please note there is NO PARKING at Pugneys Country Park.

In partnership with Arriva we are arranging a FREE Shuttle Bus for The Hatchling at Pugneys Country Park on Sunday 25 August 2024.

There will be 3 routes: Hemsworth, Pontefract and Wakefield, more information below.

Free Shuttle Bus - Wakefield Route

Regularity: Every 5 minutes

  • Clarence Park Bus Stop (there will be limited free parking available for locals at Clarence Park)
  • Denby Dale Road (come off here for Pugneys Country Park)

Accessible Parking & Shuttle Bus

Please ensure you bring your blue badge with you otherwise you will not be able to use these services.

 

ACCESSIBLE CAR PARK

There will be an FREE accessible car park available for blue badge holders only at: ASDA Wakefield (WF2 7EQ).

The car park is available 2:30pm-10:30pm.

Car parking spaces are limited so we advice booking ahead. Booking will be open shortly, keep an eye on this page for updates. 

Once parked, you can either make your own way to Pugneys Country Park (following Asdale Road) or wait for an accessible shuttle bus to take you to the event site.

 

ACCESSIBLE SHUTTLE BUS

Date: Sunday 25 August

Time: 2:30pm-10:30pm

Regularity: As required, there will be numerous buses available on this route.

Route Stops:

  • Accessible Car Park at ASDA Wakefield
  • Pugneys Country Park

To return to the car park please go to the Accessible Car Park pick-up-point on Asdale Road.

Train

Once you’ve arrived at one of these stations you can make your way to one of the Free Shuttle Bus pick-up-points.
