About

Cromwells, a grade II listed building, was converted from two dilapidated cottages in 1987, and officially opened as a Restaurant and Tea Room in 1988.

Located on Mauds Yard, an ancient alleyway off Market Place in Pontefract, the restaurant is placed over two floors with much of the building boasting exposed Victorian brick and sandstone believed to be from the ruins of Pontefract Castle.

Whether it’s a hearty big breakfast, pie of the day, homemade fishcakes, afternoon tea or simply a coffee and cake, there’ll certainly be something for everyone to enjoy. Cromwells House Roast Coffee is roasted by the local roastery, Recent Beans.

The restaurant is split over two floors with a more formal dining area upstairs. Whilst Cromwells is a relatively small venue, pushchairs and wheelchairs can be accommodated downstairs, depending on capacity.

The intimate upstairs restaurant comfortably seats 26 and is perfect for private events/exclusive use.

Please note that toilets are located upstairs and Cromwells are unable to accept dogs due to the size of the restaurant. Assistant dogs are, of course, welcome.
