About

If you’re looking for an exciting adventure in the outdoors, head over to Haw Park Wood. Journey through the beautifully dense woodland, explore part of the Trans Pennine Trail on two wheels and keep your eyes peeled for the enchanted pixie village hidden away between the trees.

Haw Park Wood has historic links with the nearby Walton Hall Estate, once home to Charles Waterton, the famous 17th century naturalist and conservationist. One of his original wildlife observation hides still remains in the woodland.

The woodland is designated a Site of Specific Interest and a Local Nature Reserve because of its value to wildlife. The area provides a range of habitats for several rare and important species of plants, beetles, newts, birds and butterflies.

The wood is only a short walk or ride through to Anglers Country Park with lakeside walks, visitor centre, cafe and children’s playground.

If you want to extend your journey a little further, head out along the disused Barnsley Canal or the Trans Pennine Trail that links the woodland to the wider countryside.
