Step inside the beautiful art nouveau building and find out more about the rich history of Pontefract. From liquorice to glass making, there’s lots to see.
Highlights at the museum include The Ackworth Hoard (made up of 52 gold coins, 539 silver coins and a gold ring, all dating from the Civil War) and The Pontefract Gallery, telling the story of Pontefract and its people, which boasts the world’s first secret ballot box and a unique display of objects related to liquorice.
Relaxed Openings
Every Tuesday from 2pm – 4pm at Pontefract Museum is a relaxed opening session.
You can explore the Museum in a quieter, more relaxed setting and everybody is welcome! This means that any loud noises will be turned down or turned off. It will not be busy.
You can be yourself. We have fidget and sensory objects to help you relax and explore. There is an extra quiet space if you need it. You can also try our activity sheets and crafts. We will have reduced noise from sounds and videos and low lighting levels.
Entry is still free. You do not need to book.
