Sitting on the banks of the River Aire, Queen’s Mill (formerly known as Allinson’s Mill) is the world’s largest stone grinding flour mill, with twenty pairs of stones.

According to the West Yorkshire Archaeological Society there has been a working mill by the river Aire as far back as Roman times, and it can be stated with some confidence that flour has been produced on the site of Queen’s Mill for an almost unbroken period of more than 900 years. During medieval times the mills were used mainly for milling wheat, just as the Queen’s Mill continues to do to this day.

Now Queen’s Mill is looked after by the Castleford Heritage Trust. We are open Monday – Friday 9.30-4.00 and offer a wide range of exciting activities and events for all the community. We are home to tearooms, a craft beer shop, a coffee roaster, Riverside Paint a Pot, artists studios and lots more. We are also a wonderful venue for your meeting, conference or celebratory event with a full bar and catering service. Keep a lookout for new exciting announcements.
