About
Whitwood Golf Club, near Castleford, was constructed on the old Whitwood Colliery site and opened for business in June 1987.
In July 2012, management of the Whitwood Golf Club was officially handed over to the Groundwork Wakefield Trust and the club has gone from strength to strength ever since. Saved from potential closure, Groundwork have developed the course to become one of the finest examples of modern day golf design in the Yorkshire region, developed to be both challenging and rewarding.
In May 2016 the course opened a newly designed 9 hole Footgolf Course to further increase the different options available at the club.
The golf course is built on undulating ground and has had new tees built over it during winter 2018. It is now a Par 70 with 6,099 yards and suitable for players of all abilities.
The course also has strategic fairways and well positioned greens; it presents an enjoyable setup whether you’re a low handicap or beginner.
We also have a 9 hole footgolf course, the first of its kind in Wakefield. There’s no need for special equipment or clothing – simply bring your trainers and play!
