Ey up! If you’re here, you’re probably wondering who we are, and what we’re up to.
We’re Experience Wakefield, and we’re the Tourism Team at Wakefield Council. We are really passionate about the Wakefield district – and about letting visitors and local people alike know all about the great things to see and do here.
We work closely with cultural partners across the district (including popular venues like The Hepworth and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, plus smaller, less well-known destinations), as well as businesses (including cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops, hotels and more) to make sure we’re shouting about all the amazing things Wakefield has to offer – from show stopping events and festivals to quirky independent shopping experiences, delicious food and drink and everything in between. Basically, all the brilliant stuff that makes up our fabric as a fantastic place to live, work, study and visit.
We also work with local people, employing them to write our guides (have a look if you haven’t already – trust us, they’re a cracking read!) to give them a place to showcase their knowledge – who better to talk about Wakefield than the people who know it best?
The website itself (as it appears today) has been a few years in the making. Experience Wakefield has been around for over ten years, and although it did its job (and did it well), we knew it was time for an upgrade. We worked with Wakefield’s Cultural Consortium and 6B, a local digital agency, to develop a website that – we think – works for both locals and visitors. We hope you agree! We want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our tourism partners and Arts Council England for their help in making this happen.
If you’re here, chances are you love Wakefield and want to talk to our visitors, too. If that’s the case, get in touch. Whether you’ve got a quirky new B&B you want us to list, a tourism event you want us to promote, or if you’re a content creator and you think you might be right for our guides, send us a message. We’d love to hear from you. Click here to get in touch.
