If you’re here, you’re probably wondering who we are, and what we’re up to.
We’re Experience Wakefield, and we’re the Tourism Team at Wakefield Council. We are really passionate about the Wakefield district – and about letting visitors and local people alike know all about the great things to see and do here.
We work closely with cultural partners across the district (including popular venues like The Hepworth and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, plus smaller, less well-known destinations), as well as businesses (including cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops, hotels and more) to make sure we’re shouting about all the amazing things Wakefield has to offer – from show stopping events and festivals to quirky independent shopping experiences, delicious food and drink and everything in between. Basically, all the brilliant stuff that makes up our fabric as a fantastic place to live, work, study and visit.

We also work with local people to help write our insider guides (have a look if you haven’t already – trust us, they’re a cracking read!) to give them a place to showcase their knowledge – who better to talk about Wakefield than the people who know it best?
The website itself (as it appears today) has been a few years in the making. Experience Wakefield has been around for over ten years, and although it did its job (and did it well), we knew it was time for an upgrade. We want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our tourism partners and Arts Council England for their help in making this happen.

Do you run a distinctive tourism business, hotel or visitor attraction within the Wakefield district? Or are you running an event that visitors to the district would love to attend? You may be able to feature your venue or event on this website! We get more than half a million visitors every year and we use our venue and event listings to fill our social media calendars, print campaigns and digital advertising.

Listings are FREE. All we ask in return is that you signpost your customers to our website for What’s On information, or mention and tag us on your own social channels.
Experience Wakefield is not a general directory and so unfortunately, not every venue or event is suitable to feature on the website, and inclusion on the website is at our discretion.
