Be inspired by the Art Collection of the National Coal Mining Museum, with exciting Adult Art Workshops which run the second Sunday of the month.


Each month an artist will be brought in to run different sessions using different mediums which have been inspired by the art within the Collection.

Mixed Media Sculpture with Harry Malkin – Dive into the dynamic art of sculpting in this hands-on, practical workshop using wire, modelling putty, and newspaper. Follow Harry’s expert step-by-step guidance as you bring to life your very own mini mining figure.

Wooden Relief Carving with Sean Barry – Work with craftsman Sean in this practical workshop, using traditional woodworking tools and techniques to create your own carved masterpiece.

Watercolour Landscapes with Moira Spencer – Delve into the colourful and dynamic world of watercolour in this guided experimental workshop. Discover and apply new tips and tricks along the way to paint a vibrant mining landscape.


Sunday 12 July 2026


Batik with Ali Taylor – Use wax resist to create striking designs on cotton fabrics. Inspired by the traditional Indonesian art of batik, you’ll develop a variety of pieces experimenting through applications of wax and dye.
