About
Jack Hulme was a hairdresser and talented amateur photographer from the pit village of Fryston, near Castleford. His striking black and white images are a fascinating, unique and revealing record of a mining community in the mid 1900s.
Hulme’s photographs are much loved by visitors to Castleford Museum. As part of Our Year 2024, Castleford Museum‘s Visitor Experience team have curated a special new selection of his pictures.
Visit Castleford Library & Museum to see the updated display in the museum on floor 3 and on the staircase from the Local Studies library. Spot some old favourites and enjoy more captivating shots from Jack Hulme’s archive.
