Nature Walk with Roger Parkinson

Meet outside the Café
Take a walk with Roger to explore the carved benches and see the hard work he and volunteers have done planting trees, donated by the Woodland Trust on the Nature Trail and filling in gaps in the hedgerow, learning about trees about biodiversity along the way.
Wakefield Youth Theatre: Weight of the World

Pithead Baths
A poignant coming of age moment for the youngest people in the mining community. This young persons play devised and written by Molly Jasper and Violet Elago tells the story of three teenage girls who find themselves in the middle of the mining strike conflict.
Yew Tree Theatre: Have You Heard The News?

Mining Lives Gallery
It’s December 1984 and the mining community is facing a Christmas unlike any other. As they gather in the local soup kitchen they consider the events of the time, as reported on the news, and how they are impacting on their lives.
Placard Making with Sean Barry

Learning Zone
Our placard making workshop, facilitated by Sean, allows you to step back in time and experience what it was like to fight for the miner’s cause.

Join us in the Makers’ Shed to have a go at making a minecart and a badge inspired by the strikes. If you are feeling lucky why not have a go at digging for treasure?!

The talented artist, Annie will be working on an outdoor art piece for the event on the day you will be able to check up on and watch the process of its creation as it happens throughout the festival. Come say hello to Annie and contribute!
Poetry

Pithead Baths
Explore poetry written by children from local schools in the lead up to the festival inspired by the Miners’ Strike. Poetry readings will take place at various times.
Music Stage

Pit Yard
Throughout the festival, attendees will enjoy a variety of musical performances. Artists will showcase their unique projects, including poetry inspired by the 84/85 strikes. This stage in the Pit Yard will allow guests to experience the vibrant and family-friendly atmosphere.
Grange Moor Youth Training Band
Outside the Cafe at 11.30am & Pit Yard at 3.15pm
Discover the music of Grange Moor, a large and successful Youth Training Band.
Together We March

Meet Outside the Café
Join us as we stage a march inspired by the miners strikes of the eighties with placards made by YOU! This participatory event will gather festival goers, creating an exciting conclusion to the festival day.
