Wakefield Exchange Hoardings

Eleven artists were selected to create artwork for the temporary hoardings surrounding Wakefield Exchange on Union Street in the city centre. These boards are up during the refurbishment of the former market hall, and the area attracts a high volume of pedestrians traveling between the main bus station and Trinity Walk shopping centre. Additionally, Union Street serves as a major route for public transportation.

Wakefield Exchange will be an exciting new creative events and exhibition venue in the heart of Wakefield, with indoor and outdoor exhibition and display spaces as well as food and drinks available from independent vendors. The building will also be a new home for creative businesses and provide space for networking.

The hoardings project created a temporary gallery of local and regional artists’ work, as well as showcasing the new creative hub.

The artists were encouraged to use digital and new media in their designs to promote the creative spirit of the Wakefield Exchange building.

We welcomed proposals from Wakefield and West Yorkshire artists and creatives, especially those with little or no experience of creating public artworks.

You can view all of the artworks on Creative Wakefield, on the Public Art page under Showcase.
