Schools

The Schools Programme for Our Year will provide children and young people across the Wakefield District with access to quality creative skills and learning opportunities. In 2024, we aim to ensure every child and young person in the district has the chance to engage in cultural and creative learning.

The ‘Our Year to GET CREATIVE’ is a free creative resource for schools but anyone can download it . This kit includes an A-Z of activities contributed by various experts from across the Wakefield district and beyond.

Our school bursary scheme facilitates easier access for schools in the Wakefield district to take students and young people to variety of cultural venues and activities.

Our activity extends to teacher training through our Career Professional development programme, led and designed by Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The programme covers a diverse range of topics, including music, drama, an introduction to archives, outdoor learning, object handling.

This year we are also developing a Wakefield curriculum for Nurseries and Primary schools with three themes: ‘Coal Mining,’ ‘The Local Environment,’ and ‘Sculpture,’ enriched with extensive resources from various collections and experts.
