The Mental Health Museum in Wakefield is situated within the grounds of the Fieldhead hospital. To gain entry to the small, eccentric collection, you have to ring the bell next to a locked door.

The museum is testimony to the history and architecture of the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum that once stood on the same spot. It includes frightening medical equipment alongside artwork from previous users – intensely personal and carefully preserved, this place has a lot to recommend it.
