About

Pontefract Lantern Parade is celebrating its 10th year in 2022 and is a festival of light which features a walk from Pontefract Castle to Friarwood Valley Gardens.

The procession is led by Leeds Samba and Huddersfield Samba to give a great carnival atmosphere. There will be music, food, children’s ride and tombola at the Valley Gardens. Read below to find out how you can make a lantern to carry in the parade.

Workshops for making lanterns to carry at Pontefract Lantern Parade are being held at Pontefract Castle on 25th September and 8th October and also at The Circle, Chequerfield, Pontefract throughout September and October. Check the Pontefract Lantern Festival Facebook page for dates and times of all workshops, or scroll down to find out more. All materials are free and people of all ages can take part.
