About

This Halloween, Wakefield BID is turning Wakefield into the spooky centre of Yorkshire with Wicked Wakey!

The city will be dressed in its own scary costume with black crows, cobwebs, rats, and tarantulas in outdoor spaces and shop windows.

Visitors can enjoy two creepy selfie rooms, each one with its own unique theme. “The Birds” will feature a dark and haunting Victorian-style street bench and lamppost, covered with cobwebs and black crows.

If that doesn’t terrify, the “Spider Sitting Room” is a spooky seat with a giant spider just waiting to get you! Take a seat on the chesterfield sofa and look at the haunted portraits covered with the enormous arachnid’s sticky webs.

Whichever room takes your fancy, snap a selfie and share your pic for a chance to win shopping vouchers from a business in the city centre – fancy dress is very much encouraged! FREE face painting will also be offered, as well as a selection of dress up items for those who just want to take part on the day.

Wicked Wakey vsitors will also have the opportunity to see a selection of strolling acts across both days, like vampire stilt walkers, The Skeleton entertainers, and the creepy Miss Havisham.

There’ll be family workshops in different locations across the centre. Unleash your creativity with glow in the dark scratch art, witch and wizard hat making and scary mask making.

If that was not enough, it’s all aboard the Tiny Train of Terror! The highlight of the event, a land train will pick up visitors and take them on a spooky ride across the city centre. Passengers will be joined on the ride by different characters who will tell them spooky tales from beyond the grave.

Come along… if you dare!
