Wakefield has two railway stations — Westgate and Kirkgate — offering excellent links across the UK.

Westgate is the city’s main station, served by high‑speed LNER and other operators with direct connections to London, Leeds, Doncaster, York, Newcastle and beyond.
Kirkgate is served by Northern, Grand Central and TransPennine Express, with services running on the Hallam, Calder Valley, Pontefract and Huddersfield lines. It provides direct routes to Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham, York, Knottingley and more.
Together, these stations offer good coverage for visitors arriving from multiple directions.

Travelling By Bus

Wakefield Bus Station, on Union Street, is a major transport hub which serves destinations across Wakefield and the wider West Yorkshire region. Services run frequently to Leeds, Barnsley, Dewsbury, Bradford, Huddersfield, Holmfirth and neighbouring towns, operated primarily by Arriva Yorkshire, Stagecoach and Team Pennine.

For full timetables and live departure information, visit the Metro or Arriva websites.
The Wakefield FreeCityBus links the bus station with Westgate Station, Kirkgate Station and The Ridings Centre, providing an easy way to move around the city centre.

Travelling By Car & Parking

Wakefield city centre is easy to reach by car, sitting close to the M1 (Junctions 39–41) and the M62, giving quick access from Leeds, Barnsley, Huddersfield and the wider Yorkshire region.
