About
Books on the Lane is a friendly, cosy, new books indie bookshop with log fires through the winter months and a fine selection of herbs and garden plants through the spring and summer. Book browsers are always welcome and ‘in person’ service and expert recommendations are guaranteed.
They stock a wide range of the latest fiction, children’s books, poetry, nature writing, classics and local interest.
The shop has become a regular destination for residents and visitors to Wakefield alike, and also available are seasonal garden plants, gift cards, gift wrap, houseplants, soaps and scented candles.
The shop is one of the 12 of the UK’s best independent bookshops, chosen by Guardian readers.
“It’s on the edge of the village, and I recommend a walk in the nature reserve next door before stocking up on good reads, unusual herbs and even nabbing a cake as you pass.”
Books on the Lane is a trading arm of The Yorkshire Live Music Project CIC, a community arts organisation established in Wakefield in 2009, and self-supported since 2013. Profit from our shops, Walton Herbs and Books on the Lane, supports youth music in Yorkshire, 2022 Castleford Young Musicians.
