About

Books On The Lane celebrates the joy and beauty of nature with the printed word. An independent bookshop in a renovated joinery workshop situated in the village of Walton and specialising in nature-writing, plus fiction, children’s nature, flora, gardening, travel, food and drink.

With hundreds of books to choose from and over 20 years experience, Books On The Lane are able to offer an exciting and adventurous real- life book browsing experience where the road to new discoveries is always open.

If the selection of nature books inspires you, you can also stock up on a wide range of herbs and seasonal plants as Walton Herbs is situated here as well!

The shop is one of the 12 of the UK’s best independent bookshops, chosen by Guardian readers.

“It’s on the edge of the village, and I recommend a walk in the nature reserve next door before stocking up on good reads, unusual herbs and even nabbing a cake as you pass.”

Books on the Lane is a trading arm of The Yorkshire Live Music Project CIC, a community arts organisation established in Wakefield in 2009, and self-supported since 2013. Profit from our shops, Walton Herbs and Books on the Lane, supports youth music in Yorkshire, 2022 Castleford Young Musicians.
