This year’s Light Up Wakefield weekend, as part of Our Year, invites you to see a spectacular trail of installations and experience the city in a whole new light!
From 15-17 November, Light Up Wakefield will delight visitors with 3 days of light installations, craft activities, Christmas Craft & Gift Market, street entertainment and more.
Prepare to be in awe as The Ice is Melting at the Pøules II joins Light Up Wakefield. This light projection made by light shining through rotating and enclosed glass discs highlighting the ongoing issue of global warming. An organic ever changing light projection through actual meltwater from the ice sheet in Greenland, Crude Oil from Texas and extract of endangered Blue Cornflour.
Illuminos’ The Timekeepers will give visitors an immersive experience with projection mapping. Get ready to celebrate the great variety of heritage, culture and arts that can be discovered across the Wakefield region with this unique piece.
Experience Sentinel – a large scale and immersive artwork that visitors can walk through. It’s sweeping curves are inspired by the wings of a canary, drawing on Wakefield’s coal mining heritage.
