At the heart of Our Year will be The Hatchling, a spectacular outdoor show featuring a groundbreaking dragon puppet created and produced by Trigger ­– creators of unforgettable, large-scale outdoor theatre and art.

As part of Our Year – Wakefield District 2024, The Hatchling will offer people across the Wakefield district the opportunity to get involved with culture and creativity.

Please note: We will be giving preference to applicants based in the Wakefield district, however we will also consider applications from the wider West Yorkshire area.

Performers

This opportunity is for any actor, puppeteer, physical theatre, circus performer or dancer that wants to perform with Trigger. Experience with large scale puppets is useful but not essential.

As a crucial member of our team, the ideal candidate for the Lighting Assistant position will bring with them experience in providing lighting solutions for live sound, theatre, and immersive productions

Student Opportunities

Costume Assistant

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about costume design and may have some experience in the theatre specifically. You’ll be assisting the Costume Maker & Supervisor, supporting the adaptation and modification of existing costumes, assisting in the management of costume preparations, and aiding in fittings as needed.

Follow Spot Operator

As a Follow Spot Operator on The Hatchling, you’ll immerse yourself in the heart of live performance, learning the intricacies of lighting control and enhancing stage presence guided by the lighting team. This role will involve mastering the operation of follow spotlights, ensuring the dragon is illuminated with precision and timing. Collaborating closely with the lighting team, you’ll execute cues flawlessly, contributing to the seamless flow of the production.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about puppetry and may have some experience in the theatre specifically. You’ll be assisting the Puppeteer Technician, ensuring seamless integration of the puppet into the overall production alongside learning and development on a live working production.
